The Role of Certain Metallic Ions as Oxidation

چکیده
I t has long been known tha t metals in some way are ve ry closely connected with the processes of respiration and oxidation in bo th plants and animals, and the mode of their action has been the subject of a great deal of research and discussion. The most impor tan t of these metals is undoubted ly iron, and the recent work of Warburg (1925) and Meyerhof (1924) has gone far toward elucidating its mode of action. 1 I ron as an oxygen carder is present in the hemoglobin of the blood of mammals and has been the subject of much invest igation. I t is not within the province of this paper, however, to discuss this aspect of the mat ter , t r ea tmen t of which m a y be found in text-books of general physiology. Next to iron, in occurrence and in importance, is copper, a l though the la t te r has not received the careful and a t ten t ive research which has been bestowed on the former3

Therapeutic metallic ions in bone tissue engineering: A systematic review of the literature
An important field of bone tissue engineering (BTE) concerns the design and fabrication of smart scaffolds capable of inducing cellular interactions and differentiation of osteo-progenitor cells. One of these additives that has gained growing attention is metallic ions as therapeutic agents (MITAs). The specific biological advantage that these ions bring to scaffolds as well as other potential ...

متن کاملGlucose Influence on Copper Ion-Dependent Oxidation of Low Density Lipoprotein
Background: It is well established that oxidative modification of low density lipoprotein (LDL) plays a causal role in human atherogenesis and the risk of atherosclerosis is increased in patients with diabetes mellitus. We examined the in vitro effect of glucose on native and glycated LDL oxidation using copper ion dependent oxidation system. Methods: In this study, LDL was isolated from plasma...
متن کاملElectrophoretic deposition of MnCr2O4 coating for solid oxide fuel cell metallic interconnects
In the present study, Mn - Cr spinel powder was synthesized through a solid state reaction. In the next step, the electrophoretic deposition (EPD) method was used to apply the MnCr2O4 spinel, as an oxidation-resistant layer, on SUS 430 stainless steel in a potential of 300 V/cm. The coated and uncoated samples were then pre-sintered in air at 900 °C for 3 h followed by cyclic oxidation at 800 °...
متن کاملNickel Base Superalloy Rene®80 – The Effect of High Temperature Cyclic Oxidation on Platinum-Aluminide Coating Features
Nickel base superalloy alloys are used in the manufacture of gas turbine engine components, which in use are exposed to high temperatures and corrosive environments. The platinum aluminide coatings described here have been developed to protect nickel base superalloy alloys from oxidation. In this study, the effect of cyclic oxidation, platinum layer thickness and aluminizing process on beha...
متن کاملThe Effect of ? -Tocopherol on Copper Binding to Low Density Lipoprotein
The oxidative modification of low density lipoprotein (LDL) may play an important role in atherogenesis. Antioxidants that can prevent LDL oxidation may act as antiatherogens. Our understanding of the mechanism of LDL oxidation and factors that determine its susceptibility to oxidation is still incomplete. Copper is a candidate for oxidizing LDL in atherosclerotic lesions. The binding of copper...
